This is not an insect at all, but a terrestrial (earth) crustacean, from the woodlice family. All of the diminutive names come from the fact that this pest has the defensive ability to curl itself into a ball, making it more difficult for predators to find its middle. Regardless of how interesting it might be, this is a household pest that many homeowners want to control. It is a creepy crawly armored bug that gives many nightmares.

This slow moving bug looks like a tiny armored tank, each segment of its body covered by armor. Ranging in color from a darker brown to a silvery gray, they measure somewhere in the 1/2″ size. They are mostly found outdoors in moist areas feeding on your vegetation. When it proves to be too hot or cold from them, they move inside your home.
